Those were the first words out of my 16 year olds mouth after he woke up from a long nap. When he left the house at 9:30 this morning he thought he would wake up with a mouth full of gauze and soreness. Instead he woke up in the same condition he was in when he left. I bet that was a bit confusing for him. I couldn't help but laugh when I realized he had no clue what was going on. Oh the power of drugs.
Gatlin was supposed to get one baby tooth and all of his wisdom teeth pulled today. That is what he thought he would be waking up from. I took him in, got his prescription, waited for the doctor to call him back and then Grant and I headed out (in the snow mind you) to get his prescription filled. While I was there I get a call from the oral surgeon's office telling me I needed to come back and get Gatlin.
You see last weekend and earlier this week Gatlin had been running a fever. It was up and down for about four days. Not much else going on, a cough here and there but nothing more. Catherine was diagnosed with pneumonia at the same time so I have been keeping a close eye on everyone else.
By Tuesday Gatlin's fever was down and stayed down so I called the doctor's office to let them know what had been going on and make sure it was still okay to bring him in today for his surgery. Sure, no problem. Well there was a problem. Shortly after the doctor started drugging him up he started having a coughing fit from deep in his chest and his oxygen level started to drop. That part is normal during the procedure but not that soon into it so the doctor felt it was best to give Gatlin some more time to make sure he was completely over whatever it was he had. I totally agreed so we re-scheduled.
They gave Gatlin some time to recover from the drugs, wheeled him out to the van and I brought him home. He immediately fell asleep on the couch and slept for about four hours. When he woke up he was a little surprised that he didn't have a painful mouth full of gauze.
It was a great opportunity to explain why we don't take drugs. You might wake up and not have any recollection of where you are or how you got there or worse, what you did along the way.
He's just happy he could fix himself a big plate of nachos!
This is so funny!
