Day 20-Nicknames
When I was a little girl (around eight) I hated my name in part because it didn't have a nickname to go with it. You couldn't shorten it because in my mind it already was a nickname for Cheryl or Sharon. Two of my siblings had names you could shorten. Susan could be Suzy or Sue and Stuart could be Stuey or Stu. Not that I remember anyone ever calling them these names they still had that option. Then there were Scott and I. Boy did we get ripped off when it came to coming up with nicknames. One day I decided to give us our own nicknames. I got very clever and figured out that Shari could be shortened to Cher. And since this was 1968 when I became so nickname savvy I started calling Scott and I Sonny and Cher.
Okay it cracks me up that I even remember this because I think it lasted about a week but for some reason having a nickname was important to me back then.
A couple of years later a church friend of my mom's started calling me Sherry Berry.
I guess having a nickname isn't always such a good thing after all.
LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteWell you know there is a company called Shari's Berries and they are SCRUMPTIOUS! So, it coulda been a worse nickname. LOL
My friend at work's name is Shari. I call her Shari-poo. My boss called her 'Doll'. I also call her crazy, but that's a whole other story. lol lol
