Ready, Set, Read!!!

A few months ago Grant's teacher presented a challenge to all of the kids in her second grade class to read 100 books before some time in May. That is a whole lot of books but since Grant loves to read I knew he wouldn't have any trouble reaching this new goal.
The first 15 books had to be about certain topics. I love this because it helped Grant reach beyond his reading comfort zone and try new genres.
Grant could read to anyone (they didn't even have to be awake) to himself or have someone read to him. Most of the time he read to himself but once in a while I read to him and on occasion Dad would start out reading to him but he always ended up reading to Dad. :)

After Grant read all the books from home that he wanted to we started making trips to the library. Catherine helped him pick out a huge pile of books for the final stretch to 100.

Grant enjoyed reading books of all different reading levels. Once in a while it was just nice to read an easy book after reading a bunch of chapter books. In the end he pick a personal favorite, and one he had read before, for his 100th book...
I'm so glad Grant enjoys reading. Even without the challenge he can often be found curled up with a book in his hands. I hope he never loses his love for a good book.
