Cub Scout Fun

Grant came in third place, out of 12, at his first Pinewood Derby. Not too bad for a first timer. He designed his car and I cut it out on the skill saw. Then he got to sand it and paint it. I couldn't talk him into adding any stickers or stripes or anything. I do think he picked an awesome color though!
I am on the Cub Scout Committee so I volunteered to help make the trophies (thank you Stacy for all your help too) and I think they turned out so cute and between Stacy and I we had all the products we needed to put them together.  I got the idea from Sugar Bee Crafts.

I also used my digi scrapping stash of Cub themed kits to make these fun certificates.
If you're interested you can find the kit designers in the credits here

And of course no one should ever race a car without an official drivers license.

One of the requirements for the Cub Scout Conservation Award is to plant a flower bed and since our front yard flower bed was in need of some new flowers it was perfect timing.  Grant picked out a variety of plants he liked with colors that I suggested and we spent the afternoon planting them.  I showed him how to plant the first two and then he did the rest. I must say, and I totally speak the truth (at the risk of offending my husband who never reads my blog so he'll never know anyway) when I say that this is the best this flower bed has ever looked. I think Grant's choices are perfect for the area. He even added a couple varieties of grass. Okay, I will give dad credit for that suggestion but the cork screw grass Grant picked out was all him. He is so proud of his little spot in the yard but was not too happy when he pointed out that a bird had pooped on the rock he is sitting on in the picture.  Welcome to the world of property defacement Grant.
